Abbey Road Studios has upgraded all of its reference systems with both the new 800 Series and Classé CA-M400 amplifiers.
London’s Abbey Road Studios, inseparably associated with The Beatles’ greatest recordings and the site of hundreds of more recent, highly acclaimed classical, pop and film-score sessions, has purchased new reference systems featuring no fewer than 33 Classé CA-M400 mono power amplifiers and 40 loudspeakers from the new B&W 800 Series.
Commenting on the new systems, Simon Campbell, Head of Technical Services, remarks:
"B&W have surpassed themselves yet again. Immediately on hearing the new 800D's we decided to equip all of Abbey Road's control rooms that have surround monitoring. They are all biamplified by the excellent Classé CA-M400's and used in combination with the mighty new ASW855 sub. The 800D's clarity and evenness throughout an extensive frequency range produces stunning results. We're also investing in the 802Ds and 805Ss to give our clients an even greater variety of monitoring options."
Studio 3 and The Penthouse now feature systems comprising 5 x B&W 800D, 1 x ASW 855 and 10 x bi-amplified Classé CA-M400. Due to space restrictions, the famous Studio 1 uses ceiling mounted HTM2D’s for surround purposes.
“We’re delighted and honoured that Abbey Road has chosen the CA-M400 for its amplification needs,” says Classé’s Dave Nauber, executive VP for brand development. “To be an integral part of a site associated with so much great music-making in all genres, at the very highest level of professionalism, is a special thing—fittingly, since the CA-M400 is a very special amplifier,” continues Nauber. “Abbey Road’s use of B&W references is long-standing; that they have now selected Classé amplifiers to maximize their performance is a gratifying confirmation of our designs’ superiority.”
The Classé CA-M400 is a single-channel power amplifier of 400/800 watts (8 Ohms/4 Ohms) and weighing some 82 pounds. Fully balanced from input to output, the CA-M400 exploits the firm’s sophisticated power-supply engineering and obsessive attention to detail in circuit layout and component selection to achieve unequalled sonic results in the most demanding applications and conditions.
The value of this outstanding reference system can already be appreciated through the superb sonics of early projects completed using it, including the recording and mixing of the musical scores to Star Wars, Episode III—Revenge of the Sith, and the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Subscribers to Media Environment Design’s MIT training program for D-Tools are now eligible to receive renewal units (RU’s) toward their Infocomm certification.
May 8, 2007, San Diego, CA - Media Environment Design, Inc, founding D-Tools certified partner and creator of the successful “MIT” Unlimited D-Tools training program, has announced its acceptance by Infocomm as an approved certification renewal units training provider. The D-Tools training courses provided through MIT (Media Interactive Training) will now give attendees credit toward their Infocomm certifications.
Each course has been awarded a RU value based upon its content, duration and learning objectives. These values were awarded after the courses were reviewed by Infocomm’s certification approval staff. The individual course values are available on MED’s website, www.medesign.tv . Media Environment Design will provide each MIT attendee with a course completion certificate upon completion of one of its MIT courses. The attendee will then need to submit the MIT courses along with their Infocomm certification renewal form.
“We have consistently been working with more commercial contractors and have received a multitude of requests from our customer base to seek Infocomm certification for our MIT courses. The certification program offered by Infocomm is very strong and we are thrilled to have our courses approved for certification renewal units (RU’s)”, Explains Ryan Brown, Vice President of MED.
MIT consists of fourteen, 90-minute training sessions, using the latest desktop sharing technology from the convenience of the attendees own office. All courses are taught using an interactive online (internet) web training utility. Each attendee signs in from his or her office workstation to the web session prior to class; calls a specific telephone number for teleconferencing; and then views the live training presentation and talks to the instructor via the telephone. A question and answer period follows each training session. MIT subscription also includes access to on demand video trainings, in addition to the live courses. The schedule for all courses is published at the Media Environment Design website
Companies subscribing to the training program retain unlimited access to the instructor taught training sessions for an entire year (one class is taught each day, every business day of the year). An added plus is that many people within the company can participate in the training sessions and staffers can take and re-take courses as necessary. The MIT Training program was created to address the training requirements of the various staff positions as they relate to the implementation and ongoing utilization of D-Tools software.

Media Environment Design, Inc. celebrates the delivery of 1D-Tools training class every business day for the past year through its revolutionary training program MIT (Media Interactive Training)
May 1, 2007, San Diego, CA - Media Environment Design, founding D-Tools certified partner and creator of the successful “MIT” Unlimited Access D-Tools training program is celebrating the 1 year anniversary of their revolutionary training program, MIT. “MED has offered D-Tools training courses through MIT every business day for the last year through MIT, we are extremely excited about the response we have received from our customer base and the results our clients are experiencing with their implementations of D-Tools”, explains Ryan Brown, VP of Media Environment Design.
The MIT (Media Interactive Training) program was developed to address the growing needs of D-Tools user companies to implement and use D-Tools throughout their entire business process. Traditional training methods such as onsite training or regional classroom training are very effective in helping existing users take their implementations to the next level, but do not provide the ongoing support required for companies to setup and implement the software most effectively. By providing for unlimited access, the MIT program allows users to build a very solid foundation with their software and expand their education on the software as their needs progress into its more advanced toolsets.
Ryan adds, “With a powerful business management application such as D-Tools, getting Return on Investment (ROI) in the shortest time period possible is critical for companies. With our program, our customers are able to begin training before the software even arrives at their office, allowing them to begin the implementation process immediately upon receiving their software.” By educating the entire staff on the software and best practices, MIT subscribers are achieving ROI in record time. Subscribers have access to fourteen, 90-minute, instructor led training sessions, delivered online using desktop sharing technology as well as on demand video trainings designed for access 24/7/365.

Simple Home Automation Changes Can Save Money and Energy; INSTEON Home Control Contest Offers $1,000 Shopping Spree
Irvine, CA -- May 01, 2007 -- Consumers are often concerned by the size of their electricity bills and wonder where all that electricity goes. Many people are surprised to learn that interior and exterior lighting are, in fact, the largest piece of the residential electrical usage pie.
Research by the California Energy Commission shows that lighting accounts for about 22 percent of home electricity use. Consumers who reduce the energy consumption of their lighting systems can make a discernable difference in their overall energy bills.
Smarthome a division of SmartLabs, Inc. and the world’s leading provider of home automation products, is helping consumers save money and energy during its May Home Automation Month. Smarthome will promote home automation products that help consumers make simple changes that create electricity savings, such as changing light bulbs, using solar-powered products and dimming lights. Additionally, it will run a contest to find consumers who are using INSTEON technology to control their “smart home.”
“We want consumers to take advantage of the latest home automation products and technologies like INSTEON to see more 'green,'” said Bruce Matthews, vice president of marketing, Smarthome, “And, we are putting our money where our mouth is with our contest to find out about innovative ways consumers are using home automation to improve their lives while saving money and the environment.”
See the light
Start by replacing as many incandescent lights as possible with compact fluorescent lights. Smaller and more efficient, these lights work in the same manner as florescent tubes. They feature screw bases and are shaped in a manner that allows them to fit into fixtures designed for incandescent bulbs. They produce the same amount of light as incandescent bulbs but use up to 66 percent less energy. And, although the initial investment is higher, they last 10 times longer and run much cooler than incandescent lights.
Fluorescent tubes have changed in recent years as well. These lights last 10 to 15 times longer than incandescent bulbs, and product innovations have made them attractive to a new generation of consumers. Florescent tubes are now available in a variety of colors and sizes, and that annoying buzz is a thing of the past. They often provide just the right light for kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms.
Take control
Not so long ago, lighting control systems were available only in high-end or custom homes at a high installation cost. Today, new products and wireless home control technologies such as INSTEON put them within reach of any homeowner. Affordable and intuitive, today’s systems are easily installed.
In an INSTEON lighting system, keypads and controllers are used to remotely turn lights on and off and to change their intensity. Consumers enjoy the convenience—and the cost savings—of being able to punch a button on a keypad by the front door and turn off all the lights in their home when they leave for the day, or the security of having a keypad in the garage that turns on selected downstairs lights so they never go into a dark house.
Visit www.smarthome.com for these and other home automation products that help save money and increase energy efficiency.
Enter contest
Consumers who are interested in trying or who are currently using INSTEON technology to automate their homes can enter Smarthome’s Home Control Contest until June 15, 2007. Consumers can either submit a written description or post a video showing how they are using home control products (including at least one INSTEON-compatible product) to increase energy efficiency, improve security, or control lighting or whole-home entertainment systems. The winner will receive a $1,000 shopping spree. For details visit www.smarthome.com/ehiha07.html.
