At the dawn of huge outdoor concerts and music festivals where thousands and thousands of fans showed up in the early 70’s there was one band and one amplifier that make those early days mythical, The Grateful Dead and McIntosh amplifiers.

Chuck Hinton of McIntosh Tech Support has written an article about how McIntosh amplifiers played and important part of the Grateful Dead’s live show and an integral part in the legendary Wall of Sound that was the most powerful PA system in the country if not the world in 1974.

We at McIntosh Labs were pretty impressed with ourselves when we realized the McIntosh 2K reference system weighed in at close to one full ton. It never even occurred to us to imagine what kind of McIntosh system might weigh 75 tons. As it turns out, our imagination was not required. Nearly 32 years earlier, Owsley ‘Bear’ Stanley, Dan Healy and Mark Raizene of the Grateful Dead sound crew and Ron Wickersham and Rick Turner of Alembic Sound dared to dream of such a system.

Samsung introduces a full line of LED flat panel TVs

When LCD TVs were first introduced into the flat panel market a few years ago, they were touted as the future of television. Maybe they were for the moment, while never being able to compete with good plasma televisions on color, contrast, and motion blur absence, now we have the first LED flat panel TVs showing up. These will be able to offer an experience rivaling, and in some cases exceeding that of a plasma TV.

Samsung is leading the way with the introduction of a complete line of LED TVs that are not only striking visually, but are high performance, and low energy usage. With a slim design (less than 2 inches thick), excellent picture quality and performance, while not quite as good as the Pioneer Elite Kuro, this TV is for the most discerning client.

At the moment there are few reviews available for this flat panel TV, but more will come. Here are a few links to learn more about the new Samsung LED TV.

As the market for home theater has matured, B&W has responded to the growing need for compact “stealth” solutions that still deliver a full measure of our celebrated performance, yet address the specific needs of large scale dedicated theater installations. The original all out CT800 package set the bar higher than ever before and is still the measure of ultimate home theater sound. However, we recognize there are cost and size constraints for many installations and we are pleased to introduce the latest member of the CT8 family, the CT8.2. The CT8.2 is, in my view, the anchor product for our CT offerings. In its category, I believe it merits the same respect as the iconic 802D. It’s that good!

Custom Theater, as defined by Bowers & Wilkins, requires a specific approach to loudspeaker design that recognizes the unique environmental factors and acoustic challenges of these installations. Speakers must be designed to disappear into recessed enclosures or behind a perforated screen. The wide dynamics of movie soundtracks coupled with a desire for high SPL capability means these systems need to be efficient and rugged. Yet, at B&W, we don’t want to sacrifice tonal neutrality and musicality in the bargain.

These engineering demands are exactly what Bowers & Wilkins excels at and our team of specialists at the Steyning Research facility in the UK has outdone themselves once again. With the CT8.2, B&W has now delivered a complete range of outstanding Custom Theater speakers that offer exceptionally high performance for every application and price range.

The CT8.2 is a passive three-way, vented-box, monopole LCR speaker. The CT8.2 is replete with B&W innovations, including a 1.25” aluminum dome tweeter with Nautilus™ spiral tube technology, a 6” FST (Fixed Suspension Transducer) blue Kevlar® midrange, and twin 8” paper/Kevlar bass drivers with a dual Flowport™ cabinet design. The speaker can be installed either vertically or horizontally due to its unique design. The midrange and tweeter housing can be removed from the top (vertical placement) and swapped with the upper bass unit for horizontal applications, thereby making it extremely versatile.

The 91dB sensitivity is very high for a non-hornloaded speaker and the system can handle extreme dynamics effortlessly, yet also reveal the tiniest nuances that contribute so much to cinematic storytelling. Like all B&W speakers, it is also an outstanding music reproducer. Power recommendations for the CT8.2 are 50-500 watts depending on theater design and SPL objectives. The speaker is finished in a non-reflective soft touch black paint.

Suggested retail is $6000 each and availability and we will be shipping by the end of May.

Contact Allwired Technologies or your local B&W Dealer for this custome home theater speaker. Allwired Technologies is an Authorized B&W Speakers Dealer.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ, April 27, 2009—NuVision© U.S., Inc., manufacturer of high-performance 1080p Deep Black LCD displays, is expanding its product line with the release of the all-new Lucidium FX5 Series. The Lucidium FX5 Series combines proprietary Film Times Five (FX5) and Frame Forward Motion (FFM) technologies to create a true 120Hz picture. The 42” display will ship in May 2009, with the rest of the line to be introduced throughout the year. The line will ultimately span 42” to 65” in size.

“We are extremely excited about the new FX5 line and the direction that our new management team is taking NuVision,” said David Hester, Vice Chairman of the Triple A financially rated company. “This really is a new era for NuVision, as we are building a team of industry specialists to propel us to the next level. The FX5 Series is the next step in that progression, and we can’t wait for dealers and installers to see the radiant, sharp display the new FX5 Series can bring to their clients’ homes.”

The Lucidium FX5 Series was designed with dealers and installers in mind. With the company’s proprietary RS232 NuControl technology, the displays are compatible with third-party remote controls and easy to install. NuVision also ensures their pre-qualified dealers that their margins will be protected and they will not be undercut by internet wholesalers.

The FX5 technology eliminates the need for the 3:2 pull down algorithm found in 60Hz displays, by recreating each frame five times, thus utilizing the 120Hz and high refresh rate of the panels. Many other LCD manufactures utilize black-frame insertion or simply attempt to double the frames in an attempt to achieve 120Hz. This works adequately when a motion sequence moves from left to right on the screen, but if it is reversed, the display reverts to its original 60Hz picture.

The FFM technology is instrumental in creating clear, flicker-free fast sports and motion sequences by comparing two consecutive frames and generating additional interpolated frames. And for an additional benefit, NuVision makes it easy to shut both functions off completely to control any latency issues that may occur.

The new Lucidium FX5 Series comes complete with a full, two-year manufacturer’s warranty on all parts and labor.

About NuVision:

Beaverton, OR – April 28, 2009 – Runco, the leading brand in luxury video solutions, has confirmed its unyielding commitment to deliver premium flat-panel displays to the custom installation industry. In a marketplace where an increasing number of video display manufacturers are exiting the custom flat-panel market in favor of mass market retail or discontinuing their flat panel product lines altogether, Runco remains focused on providing its dealers with the highest-performing luxury video displays for custom application and viewing environment.

“At Runco, image quality and performance are our top priorities,” said Matt Christensen, manager of product marketing for Runco. “Our flat panel displays deliver the highest-fidelity video performance with the most accurate color reproduction and a rich, cinematic feel. Unlike other brands that proved unsuccessful in providing flat panel solutions for dealers within the custom installation channel, Runco continues to provide LCDs and plasmas that are demonstrably superior to the ubiquitous big-brand panels. We are now offering Runco dealers the widest range of custom flat-panel solutions that are the industry benchmark for exceptional video quality and are available in massive screen sizes with innovative proprietary technologies found only in Runco panels.“

Runco is now shipping its entire portfolio of LCD flat-panel displays, which offer high-performance video solutions for rooms of distinction, as well as luxury outdoor living spaces. For indoor and outdoor environments with high levels of ambient light, Runco LCDs deliver a masterful blend of image prowess, impeccable design and state-of-the-art craftsmanship. Runco’s large selection of high-definition LCD flat panels offers a broad range of screen sizes to meet the viewing needs in any room, now ranging from 32 to 70 inches.

For the ultimate flat-panel theater experience, Runco also touts a refreshed line of plasma displays with a wide range of screen sizes, from 50 inches to the massive XP-103DHD, which measures 103 inches in diagonal. The company’s CinemaWall™ and PlasmaWall™ plasma displays elevate image quality to the highest levels of full 1080p resolution, and boast impressive brightness and contrast ratio, deep black levels and the most accurate colorimetry available. Like their sister LCDs, Runco’s plasma line incorporates signature engineering enhancements and sophisticated technologies, exclusive Vivix™ processing (internal and external) and control options to perfectly display all video content, protecting image integrity while providing the utmost installation versatility for Runco dealers.

In addition to proprietary video processing and image correction technologies, Runco flat panels are available with Runco’s exclusive new OPAL™ (Optical Path Alignment) image enhancement technology. OPAL is a proprietary new technology from Runco designed to enhance flat panels in their optimal applications. When applied to its LCDs, Runco’s OPAL preserves the integrity of video content in high ambient light, which directly competes against and degrades LCD images and distracts from the experience. Runco’s OPAL utilizes proprietary micro-visual surface treatment of the LCD panel to reduce internal and surface reflections by more than 20 times, increase contrast by more than three times, and enhance protection of the panel from contamination from dust, condensation and even the occasional blow from a handheld gaming remote. When applied to plasma, Runco’s OPAL thrives in lower-light applications to create a cinema-quality experience. The OPAL technology within Runco plasma significantly enhances the black level, detail and clarity specifically within dark scenes. Runco’s OPAL technology allows the smallest details within the darkest scenes to be vibrant without sacrificing the overall picture quality. Only Runco offers superior OPAL engineering to provide a truly stellar viewing experience to achieve the best imagery, technology and HD performance in any flat panel application.

Runco’s PlasmaWall and CinemaWall plasma display monitors, Crystal Series™ and Climate Portfolio™ LCDs are now available through authorized Runco dealers. Runco’s CX-OPAL47 and weather-proof Climate Portfolio WP-OPAL42 LCDs are the first Runco products currently available with OPAL. Runco will be offering its CinemaWall and PlasmaWall products with proprietary Runco’s OPAL technology in the near future.

McIntosh began in 1949, the company you thought this was, Apple, Inc. began in 1979. This year, McIntosh Laboratory is celebrating its 60th Anniversary. Very few companies have made products that are as enduring. You will toss out your iPod soon after you replace the battery if not before. That 27 inch Sony Trinitron has made it to the basement and is gone this spring. That fancy new laptop will be gone and forgotten soon enough no matter how cool it makes you look.

Chances are that if you have ever owned a piece of McIntosh hi-fi gear, you still treasure it and only wish you had more. After 60 years, McIntosh still has the same appeal.

In celebration of their 60th Anniversary, McIntosh Laboratory’s offers up the Special Edition 60th Anniversary System which includes two MC75 monoblock tube amplifiers and a C22 Preamplifier.

There will only be 60 of this extremely limited-edition system sold per country.

The Special Edition 60th Anniversary System, brings together two revamped components; the MC75 (from 1961) and the C22 (from 1962).

The upgraded MC75 stereo amp develops 75-watt-per-channel into 2, 4 or 8 ohms. It offers circuitry updates that improve reliability and enhance sonic performance. Included in the updates is a custom application of the patented Sentry Monitor short circuit protection. There are balanced inputs and outputs. The stainless steel chassis has a triple-polished gold titanium finish.

The new version of the C22 recreates the look and feel of the original while adding a number of circuit enhancements. It marries the classic backlit glass and brushed anodized aluminum front panel but with new preamp specifications like balanced inputs and outputs and an IR remote(not available on the original model). All signal switching in the C22 is done with electromagnetic switches driven by Digital Logic.

Included with the purchase of this package is the book For the Love of Music, autographed by the author Ken Kessler, McIntosh co-founder, Sidney Corderman and president Charlie Randall. The book chronicles the company’s legacy.

To inquire about these special limited addition components, please contact Allwired Technologies.
